Who we are.
The mission of the Finnish Cultural Institute for the Benelux is to promote Finnish culture, arts and research in the Benelux countries. The institute creates contacts, builds expert networks and acts as a mediator between individuals and organisations in Finland and the host countries.
What we do.
The institute’s main activities are:
- Cultural export (visual arts, music, literature, dramatic art, cinema, architecture, design…)
- Seminars, lectures and expert meetings
- Courses on Finnish language and culture
- Promoting scientific cooperation
In addition to this, the institute has its own international library consisting of art books, fiction, children’s books, CDs and a selection of newspapers and magazines in several languages. The Scandinavian Language School offers in the institute’s facilities Finnish languages courses for beginners and advanced students.
How we work.
The Finnish Cultural Institute for the Benelux is an independent non-profit organisation. The Institute receives an annual subsidy from the Finnish Ministry of Education. Furthermore, the Institute’s activities are financed by different co-operation agreements as well as private and public grants.
Who we work with.
Established in 1993, the Finnish Cultural Institute for the Benelux is part of the network of Finnish cultural and academic institutes. The institute works in close cooperation with Finnish embassies in the Benelux and other Finnish cultural export organisations. The institute’s partners further include other cultural institutes in the Benelux, with whom the institute organises various international cultural events.
The Finnish Cultural Institute for the Benelux is also a member of EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture) in its Brussels and Amsterdam clusters.
